Wandering Around Colombo!

Hello guys, hope you all are doing great, as you may (or may not) have noticed I’ve been very quiet here recently.
So,our recent trip to Sri Lanka was fun, there is something about Sri Lanka !

I don’t think I’ve been anywhere in the world, where people have been so genuinely warm, welcoming and just downright nice, like really, really nice.
We stayed in two different places Colombo and Bentota.
We wanted to mix it up have some nice time in a child-friendly place.
Starting off with three nights,we stayed in Colombo,we stayed in the hub so everything was just a minute away from the hotel.

First day in Colombo:)

Like i said we stayed for 3nights we had limited time to see around and with a toddler it gets a lil tiring, however we managed to visit these beautiful places in Colombo.

  • Independence Memorial Hall ( Independence Square)

Isn’t it beautiful? The weather wasn’t too friendly for the camera but my husband still managed to capture few, oh my little one enjoyed the most after she saw lions everywhere:)

Independence Memorial Hall is located in the Independence Square at Colombo 7. This place is known as Torrington Square in early days. This Hall was built for the commemoration of the independence from British in 1948. But the construction of was started after the Independence.

DCIM100GOPROGOPR3864.Statue of late Hon. D.S Senanakaya, the first Prime minister of Sri Lanka is located in front of this monument.

  • Gangaramaya Buddhist temple

Gangarama Temple is located in the heart of the Colombo city by the Beire Lake. This is one of the prominent Buddhist center in Colombo and visited by many local and foreign devotes daily.

Religion plays a strong part in Sri Lankan’s daily life. So much culture, ancient ruins and temples are something you love to explore, then you will adore Sri Lanka.

This place is so serene and calm, yes we decided to celebrate our daughter’s birthday in Srilanka BUT nothing was planned believe me we went with the intention to just chill and have fun,so after the cake cutting in the morning we visited this place and spend the day here with the monk, took blessings, prayed, couldn’t ask for more like seriously! so beautiful.

Sri Lanka to me is a big collage of everything, food, culture, religion etc.

Sri Lankan food is to die for!

Everywhere you go, you’ll find delicious food, often seafood pulled straight from the Indian Ocean and curries made with the freshest natural ingredients and accompanied by rice of course. Can you stay without rice? I can’t:)

The traditional spread is to die for!

I wish i can write more but you will have to wait for another exciting one ‘Our road trip to Bentota’

Till the stay tuned:)

Thank you for stepping by!

Myra’s Room Reveal!

I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited about writing a blog post! We moved to a new apartment about 9 months back and one thing that I have always wanted is to redo is my daughter’s room.

It’s like a sigh of relief, a falling away of something heavy that has been resting on my shoulders,to finally be able to enjoy the space in the room and feeling all dreamy with my lil one is a bit of an achievement for us.

All new moms dream of the perfect nursery/room with all the right touches and room for your baby to play and grow.

Toddler’s room are an awesome space in the home that we can really be creative, fun and daring in ways we might not be brave enough to be in other rooms of the house.  They also need to be very functional spaces for both baby and parents.

To transform this room we need to add more colors and brighten the room.

So now let me break down some of the details in the room…

The bed and the world map is one of my favourite upgrade to the room.

Crib-This crib was previously owned , the only thing I did was repaint it and add in a lil decor here and  we used  this crib for more than a year and post that lil Myra always insist, just don’t want to sleep so i took advantage and  made use of it as in we just put a bunch of random things from diaper bags/laundry/toys etc. It felt so unfinished compared to the other rooms and I really wanted to create a relaxed and dreamy room for her.

                    Before-Clutter and awkward room/Empty and unimaginativeIMG_1660.JPG

Processed with MoldivBed-The bed is a mix of old and newI always like to pay for the price that is worth and not spend too much ! We all know everything is expensive especially furnitures. What better way getting it customised within your budget  yet comfortable and beautiful. We researched for reference on net and found few on @pinterest and we made a board with few designs. Reached out and hunt for a furniture shop and we finally decided to stick to @Rajdjhanicraft and guess what ! after bargaining  we paid Rs 9000 only.

Sidetable This one is an old piece and I’ve been using it in the living room since I didn’t really want to spend I somehow managed to re-use it.I have two of them a little different to each other.

World map-My favourite element, learning should be fun,lil Myra is little  young to understand all she wanted to do was draw/scribble on it.This was our first choice before deciding on anything and I am sure that this change was essential for her to enjoy her bedroom and discover a world full of new possibilities and discoveries.

Drawers-These drawers are incredibly elegant and functional with a little classic touch on it,palette of white and mint green we played with, these drawers really opens up this small  area and  am really happy how everything has come together, the closer the drawer is to you, the greater the importance now that we’ve picked these drawers  best suited for the space, sorting  toys and organising the room is not a task.

Couldn’t help but share the pic too:)

In my recent post I’ve mentioned and shared few decor ideas and budgets tips if you haven’t,do browse.

The simple bedroom which was basically a blank slate was transformed using super simple touches, clean, simple, and uncluttered.

This room has so much natural light and large windows finding proper curtains was important.

So,this is Myra’s little world!

What do you all think?

Brands that made it all happen:

Furnitures-Rajdhani craft MG road Gurgaon

World map-We got this customised and my husband is pro at this,I will be sharing the entire A-Z how he got it customised.

Decor- Ive mentioned all the details in my recent post, here are few decor that I’ve recently added;

  • Sheep pillows  from @Hopscotch
  • Flower vase do check my instagram post how i made this simple flower vase.
  • Rug from @Fabfurnish

Budget tips redecorating toddler’s room!

Redecorating your toddler’s room can be a daunting task.

When considering makeovers for kids’ bedrooms, keep these quick and easy room updates in mind so you and your child can transform that bedroom into a creative space that represents a very individual personality.

Here are one of the easiest and cheapest ways to transform a room;

Wall art-For inexpensive wall art/decor,online purchase is one thing we can rely on and we never fail to get find something that interest us,EVERYTHING is available these days you name it and its there,I did my research wall papers with very minimal design and soft colors are available BUT expensive,so i skipped the idea and tried something inexpensive.

Can you spot these wrapping paper with few golden dots on it and few stars designs, you can cut these in any shape/design(your choice)and paste it on the walls, you can always brighten the walls with few photo frames /artwork to help create elements of fun too. If budget is tight.

I’ve also added these butterflies wall stickers, you can find them online at @amazonindia.

Accessorise, Accessorise, Accessorise– Accessories are another element of fun and colour, displaying those old toys that your child has ignored and dumped  is a no-cost way of adding instant colour.I like to reuse stuffs,so i got few of these dry-cleaned,and I’m gonna make use of those valuable space.

Storage-Honestly I’ve been hunting for toy storage since  my lil one was very young, young i mean still learning how to take those first few steps and the collecting/buying still continues, since i have an OCD i like to keep things neat and organised.

Bought these from the local stores and they are reasonable, few of them are old and I’m reusing it again, always keep your kids’ bedrooms or playroom organized with toy boxes/storage box, playroom storage and toy organizers are a great way to keep your home tidy and your kids’ toys in their proper place.

Valuable space-Those long blank wall in the room really needed a big piece of artwork, fun is important to help them learn, grow and cherish those younger years that vanish way too quickly.

So,here’s what l’ll  be doing with the space,i bought this chalkboard vinyl some months back and now that lil Myra is all grown up,I’m confident that she can spend hours and hours scribbling, drawing, writing on it.

Banners/Tissue pompom decoration-There is no simpler way to add these little seasonal colour to your home and i think it is perfect for decorating kids room/playroom.I bought these banners online from@amazon and the ones in yellow/greyish are self made I’m reusing them(made these for my baby shower) these pompom decoration are from @wishingchair it was on discount i guess,i bought them for Rs 150 or 200 each.

Window Dressing-Summer is already here why not floral with little soft tone on it,I’m yet to buy,and i have to get them stitched too, phew!so much is left!

  • Chart paper(any stationery store Rs 15-20)
  • Butterfly stickers  from @amozonindia Rs 179(warning this product is not a toy and may present a choking hazard for small children)
  • Storage box(local store 5 pieces Rs 1500)
  • Banners@amazonindia Rs350
  • Pompom decoration from @wishingchair
  • Chalkboard vinyl(stationery store its not mentioned and i can’t recall)These are the ideas that I think would look gorgeous and at a very minimal price.

These are the ideas that I think would look gorgeous and at a very minimal price.

I can’t wait to show y’all the final touch of the room makeover.

Stay tuned!

Happy Crafting!

Egg Avocado salad!

I’m a big fan of breakfast, are you? in fact I think it’s fair to say it’s my favourite meal of the day. Unfortunately since becoming a mama I don’t always get to enjoy a relaxed breakfast:)

Salads can be creative and balanced, healthy and tasty, a simple and fulfilling meal, easy to prepare, fresh and rich with nutrients.

I don’t always love cooking. I have my moments; usually when it’s quiet or late at night, but some days I just have to get the family nourished and it doesn’t need to be beautiful all the time.image1-23

Here’s the recipe;

Hard boiled eggs/Avocado

Mayonaise  /Lemon

Salt to taste

Preparation;Simply boil the eggs and remove the shells, you can use a fork to mash the eggs and avocado, add a spoonful of mayonaise  and pinch of lemon and salt to taste and its ready!!

You can serve this with toasted bread with loads of butter!

This recipe is such an easy one.

Breaking up with breastfeeding!

It’s been well more than a year since I’ve been a breastfeeding mom, breastfeeding is known to be best for your baby, its one of the best thing I’ve ever..experienced

Browsing on all those nice pictures related to breastfeeding and its easy sometimes to see everyone’s lives through the rose coloured lens of IG and think everyone’s lives are perfect isn’t it?

Well,we all have struggle through,we all have bad days but that does not stop us from doing our responsibility and accepting things the way it is and just go with the flow.

Good’ol fashioned nursing, nothing seems to comfort or soothe a teething baby/unwell/cranky baby.

I have to admit that I will always hold a soft spot in my heart for those special times with my baby.At the same time, breastfeeding is often a most challenging and depleting time,

There were tears!
As much as i adore my nursing relationship with my daughter, there are days where i can feel myself getting anxious and frustrated, days where i wish she would move on.
I’m happy I nursed her as long as I did, but I was ready to wean!
I thought that’s what I was “supposed” to do. It was terrible! Neither one of us was ready to wean. The night I stopped nursing I was so engorged, and she was a screaming mess.
When breastfeeding, inevitably the topic of weaning comes up. “How long will you go for?” “What’s your goal?” “Are you going to nurse until baby is ready to stop?”
We read so much before giving birth about the challenges of breastfeeding, but no one mentions the challenges of weaning..
So,here i am, the reality is lil miss is turning 2 in no time and i just can’t imagine..
I’ve made a routine recently and i wasn’t sure it’ll really worked,but it did.
I’ve stopped breastfeeding her during the day i know its difficult coz they keep on clinging and there’s no way we can push them away, call me a mean mother really does not matter, seriously!
Here’s the trick all i did was i always have small/tiny lemon in the house, here’s why?Whenever lil miss would come looking for booboo all I did was rub the lemon on my nipples and the expression OMG!(too cute too handle) it worked and you know how that guilt will always take over you, there are times when i cry, not that i totally weaned her off,i feed her twice in a day when she sleeps during the day and at night and guess what does she say-Mama magic:)and rub the nipple and smile through out(I’m sobbing right now)its difficult to get it off especially when they’re sleepy, the only thing that soothe them, but I’m giving it sometime to let go during these hours too  and I’m pretty sure we can do it.
A full-time mom is all about managing/running errands in the house,to be very honest, not like any other toddler,my kid is a foodie so feeding her and introducing solid food to her was the easiest,i aint bragging, she eats almost everything, she even eats maggi with raw onions:)lol!
We all have our own views, after all no two moms are the same, different ways of parenting when it comes to our decision be it weaning/when is the right time to feed them/keeping them at the daycare/playschool/getting back to work etc..the list goes on…
Im happy now that my daughter is also adjusting and il cherish these moments, that i was able to nourish her ,these moments are precious and our bond is strong!
So,all you mamas out there it takes time and what really worked for me is PATIENCE its the key,the more you push them away the worse the situation becomes.
Breastfeeding relationship changes so much in the course of a year.
Would love to hear from the changes in the breastfeeding relationship!

Easy toddler meal!

Hello guys, its been a while since i last posted, hope y’all enjoyed your weekend as mush as i did:)

My haphazard mix of mothering, tweeting, playing, blogging, housekeeping, reading, and just plain randomness frustrates us all. The day ends feeling wasted, and when I look at my surroundings, I realise I’ve gotten nothing done,so today i woke up all geared up with my to do list and i have to at least have a green mark on my list..hmm so without any further ado,Im here to share a recipe, its been at the parking lot for decades.

If you’re searching for homemade recipe of healthy food for toddlers /kids you’re not going to find one simpler than this healthy stew.

What you give your children when they are 1-3 years of age is very important, because the nutritional needs of kids are high at this age. Plus, if they do not get used to variety at this stage, they are unlikely to enjoy different foods at a later age! So, try to include more types of food in their diet, like the Dal and Vegetable soup, meat, fish etc..

Cooking time-1hour

Best for 1-3 years

4-5 pieces pumpkin

2 carrots

1 beetroot

1-2 sweet potatoes or normal potatoes

2 pieces of fish(preferably stomach)

Onion/garlic(i prefer it grinded)

1tablespoon butter

Salt to taste.

Method-Make sure the veggies are washed properly,in a large bowl, mix together all the items pre heat the slow cooker.

First thing first, fry the fish with a spoonful of butter, once its fried and its a lil brownish, remove from flame.

Heat veg oil/olive oil and saute the onions and veggies(salt to taste) for 10-15 mins, add 1-2 cups of water and allow to simmer till the veggies are slightly soft, add the fish/ginger and keep it in low flame and let it boil and make sure the fish does not break into pieces while steering, and mix well until its cooked, you can serve it with a steam rice or bread(always make sure the fish is kept seperately before serving so that you can clear the bones and its not as frustration or hard to scrap the bones)

Always use a fork and mash the veggies so that your toddler will not have trouble swallowing.

Hence the result!

Thank you for stepping by and hope your lil one enjoy  this simple and healthy recipe!
